From Crossbody to Shoulder Purse (My Favorite Little Black Bag)
I was looking for a shoulder purse with the body design of a crossbody purse I already had. It had a slender shape and fit all my things perfectly. I also love that the logo on the specific crossbody I owned isn’t too noticeable. I was looking for something similar with a shorter strap, something I could see myself wearing every day.
In my search for a new purse, I found endless crossbody bags and oversized shoulder purses. I felt like there were so many options, but I had envisioned something similar to the body of the purse I already owned.
The crossbody I already owned is a sleek, simple, and timeless staple piece just sitting up in my closet & not being worn. I held it up to my shoulder one day, considered selling it, and realized it would meet my desire perfectly if I shortened the strap so the purse would sit just above my hip. So, I dusted it off from sitting in my closet and took it to my local repair shop.
We reconstructed the strap from the crossbody style into a shortened strap. The repairer marked where I felt it fit me best, kept the original chain details & punched some new holes in the strap. The bag hits just above my upper hip and isn’t too close to my underarm, like a shoulder purse. The length and look were exactly what I hoped to find in my purse search.
I love taking older pieces that aren’t getting as much use and mending them as my style wants and needs change. Every time I wear this bag, I love it even more because the fit is customized to my body and style. I feel comfortable in it, and it perfectly holds all my things.
