Style guide for Levi’s 501 jeans
Levi’s 501 jeans provide the classic timeless Levi’s look. Made with a straight leg and fitted hip they are made to last with effortless style. Levi’s provides two 501 styles: a “no stretch” and a “low stretch” option. Here’s how they differ, why it matters, and how to spot the difference.
Levi’s 501 no stretch
This made-to-last denim provides the identifiable Levi’s look, and is my personal favorite. Made with 100% cotton, these are a classic staple jean. These jeans provide a lasting shape and are a thicker material and can stretch out throughout the day.
To spot them in-store: you’ll find a tag sewn into the inside of the Jean wearer’s right side: “Quality Clothing Levi’s Premium.” The outer brown label usually has the phrase “Genuine Quality Clothing” on it.

Levi‘s 501 low stretch
Made of cotton and 1% elastane, these jeans provide more stretch and comfort. I wear these a lot more because of the practical comfort they provide and I find they give more of a form-fitting shape because of the elastane.
I find this 501 hugs my curves and flatters my body type. In my opinion, this option provides a look that feels easier to dress up, versus the no-stretch option which provides a more casual denim look.
To spot them in store: these will not have the inside “Premium Quality” tag, and the brown label states “Quality Clothing”
Sizing
When it comes to sizing, for both of these jeans I get my usual waist size. I like to get the length a bit longer and hem them after a few washes if needed.
